At Shield Road we follow the National Curriculum for Science. Science may be taught as a separate subject or as part of a cross-curricular topic. Scientific enquiry skills are tracked carefully to ensure progression. We aim to inspire children and give them a love of science by making science activities fun and hands-on. We have links with the University of the West of England and often have Science days where we visit the university and work with student teachers. This year we have held a successful Science Fair where each class presented a science activity for the rest of the school and parents. We often have visitors, for example, The Science Dome and The RSPB and trips, for example to The Wild Place, farms and the Zoo, which develop and support children’s science education.
